From Legos to Granola: How Rainbow Trout Kitchen Began
Every great adventure starts with a little curiosity… and sometimes, a lot of Legos.
Peter was 8 years old when he came home from a fly-fishing trip with more than just fishing tales, he had a granola recipe he was determined to try. Why? To fund his obsession - Lego sets. That’s right: Legos were the original fuel behind Rainbow Trout Kitchen granola!
Soon he was mixing, baking and selling small-batch granola out of the family kitchen. Everyone who tasted it was instantly hooked.
Where our journey begins
Fast-forward to 2020: Peter was off to college in North Carolina leaving his granola empire behind. But his mom, Jakie, wasn’t ready to let the magic go. So she reeled in her good friend (and longtime community-project partner) Ashley, and the two jumped into their next adventure - building an official, commercial Rainbow Trout Kitchen and sharing granola far and wide!
Today Rainbow Trout Kitchen offers two flavors: Classic Almond and Triple Seed Berry (gluten-free) in two sizes. Each batch is made by hand with the same wholesome ingredients, crunchy goodness and playful spirit that Peter started with years ago.

Yes! Our Triple Seed Berry granola is gluten-free. However, our Classic Almond granola contains wheat germ and wheat bran, so it's not suitable for those with gluten sensitivities.

Our granola recipe originated during a fly-fishing trip, which inspired the name. The business was started by 8-year-old Peter in 2010 using a recipe shared with his family on that fishing adventure. When Peter went to college in 2020, his mother Jakie and her friend Ashley took over to continue sharing this delicious granola with outdoor enthusiasts and granola lovers everywhere!
